Hormann Up and Over Doors

Series 2000 UK Range
There are essentially two types of Hormann one piece up and over garage doors in the Series 2000 UK range – canopy and retractable. The main differences between the two doors are the spring arrangements – the retractable door has the lifting springs at the side and the canopy door has the springs at the head and the canopy door protrudes when open. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

canopy door operationCanopy doors – advantages
> There are no tracks therefore gas meters, side doors into the garage or shelving presents no problems.
>The spring arrangement to the head means that the sides of the opening are pretty well unobstructed save the weather strip of around 1” that is attached to the frame. This means full drive htrough width when open.
> There is less swing out on a canopy door.

Canopy doors – disadvantages
> The main disadvantage of the canopy door is the need for a bow arm converter to enable electric operation. A bow arm will reduce will the drive through height by 5-6 inches.
> Canopy gear is only available up to 8 feet (2438mm) wide and 7 feet (2134mm) high

retractable operation up and overRetractable doors – advantages
>There are varying spring strengths to enable appropriate tensioning to facilitate optimum lifting operation for all sizes and weights of doors.
> The retractable door can have electrically operated openers fitted as standard with no extra equipment required..
> Retractable PLUS gear is available that gives virtually full drive width (by having the arms positioned higher and avoiding contact with extended mirrors).

 Retractable doors – disadvantages
The spring and lifting arm arrangement is situated on the vertical track legs thus reducing the drive through width by nearly 6” (because of the position of the arms fouling the passage for vehicle mirrors). Retractable PLUS gear can limit this problem on narrower doors.
